Your Monday Hug Devotion for August 18, 2025: Creativity & Reinvention

Happy Monday, my Friend!

Do you start each day as though it’s brand new … or do you carry yesterday into today? This week’s reflection is inspired by that question — and by a little “new era” excitement I noticed after seeing Taylor Swift announce her latest album. I’m not a 'Swiftie,' but I couldn’t help picturing all the buzz around a fresh start, a new chapter.

It made me think about us as mothers — or anyone who cares deeply for others. We never stop praying, guiding, or creating, but the way we do it shifts with each season of life. During their tweens and teens, my prayers often sounded like: “Please allow them to explore and chase their dreams — but keep watch over them and help them always know You, Lord.” Later, when they’re adults, the prayers will sound different … yet still daily, still from the heart.

This week’s reflection invites us to treat each day as a fresh canvas — leaving behind yesterday’s colors and approaching life with a mind renewed by God’s grace. It’s a gentle reminder to focus on what truly matters: faith, peace, and love for others.

This short reflection on Creativity and Reinvention invites you to pause, reset, and consider how your daily choices can help you “be renewed in the spirit of your minds” (Ephesians 4:23).

Creativity and Reinvention

Excerpt from Hugs: Daily Inspirations for Women

"You are being renewed in the spirit of your minds." - Ephesians 4:23

Margaret Fuller learned Latin and Greek at age six and read Shakespeare by age eight. She made history in 1845 with the first known feminist writings in America. She was also a student of Ralph Waldo Emerson, a renowned author, editor, and literary critic.

Margaret once said, "An original mind is rarely understood." She knew from personal experience that creativity is sometimes a lonely burden, but that it also has its rewards.

The next time you encounter resistance to your original idea, whether at work or at home, stand up for your beliefs. And if you think that there are no more creative ideas to explore in your own life, take off the blinders and start reinventing yourself. Then prepare for a fresh round of success.

"When the spirit of child's play enters into the creative process, it's a wonderful force and something to be nurtured." - Joni Mitchell

Untying the Knots Within – One Step at a Time

Looking for small ways to reset your perspective this week? Here are a few gentle ideas to help you pause and embrace a fresh start:

  • Mini Prayer: “Lord, guide my heart to see each day as new. Help me embrace Your creativity in my life and be open to the ways You want to renew me.”
  • Quiet Practice: Take 5 minutes today to reflect: What could you try differently this week? Where might God be inviting you to rethink, refresh, or reinvent your routine, priorities, or mindset?
  • Saint Companion:
    • St. Bernard, Abbot and Doctor of the Church (Aug 20) – Known for his deep devotion and reforming spirit, reminding us that renewal often begins with inner focus and discipline.
    • St. Pius X, Pope (Aug 21) – Encouraged renewal in the Church and simplicity in faith, inspiring us to embrace fresh approaches in our own spiritual lives.
    • The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Aug 22) – Invites us to see Mary as a model of grace and transformation, showing how surrender and openness can lead to new beginnings.
  • Rosary Moment: (Scroll Down for this week's Rosary Moment - a perfect time to pause and reset.)
  • Product Tip: Try a new way to pray or reflect this week. Change your location, your posture, even the time of day, or use a new rosary - small shifts can spark fresh perspective and help your heart feel renewed.

Rosaries to Inspire this Week:

This week, try praying a decade asking God to help you greet each day as a fresh canvas — letting go of yesterday’s colors and distractions, and refocusing on Him with a renewed heart.
