Hide & Seek with Jesus: A Lenten Search with St. Joseph

Do you remember playing hide & seek as a child?

The quiet giggles.
The suspense of footsteps.
The hope of being found.

Even when you discovered the perfect hiding place, after a while ... you wanted someone to find you.

Could Lent feel this simple  this childlike?

Jesus isn't far from us. He isn't playing games. But in the busyness of life, we sometimes lose sight of Him. March gently gives us Saint Joseph - a steady faithful father who knew what it meant to search and to trust - walking faithfully alongside Mary.

St. Joseph, Mary & the 3-day Search

In the Fifth Joyful Mystery, Joseph and Mary searched for Jesus for three long days.

Can you imagine their hearts?

The responsibility.
The questions.
The quiet ache.

... And then the relief of finding Him in the Temple.

Joseph and Mary didn't give up. They kept walking. They kept seeking. Lent invites us to do the same.

No extras. No drama. Not perfectly.

Just in faith.

Pause and pray the Fifth Joyful Mystery with me

Let this moment remind you that seeking Jesus is always worth the search.

Why the Search changes us

You know, the funny thing about hide & seek? Even when you find that perfect hiding place ... after a while, you want to be discovered.

Our hearts are like that.

We may get distracted by what sparkles - success, recognition, staying busy – but what we truly want is to be seen and loved  by Christ.

In the book Rediscover Jesus, Matthew Kelly reminds us:

"Jesus believes that you are infinitely valuable. Anytime you don't believe that, you are living in a state of deception, disconnected from the deepest, truest reality."

Lent is a gentle return to that reality. The seeking opens our eyes. The searching softens our hearts. The small daily steps help us recognize He has been with us all along.

Simple Ways to Seek this Lent

Joseph and Mary show us that holiness is often quiet and patient.

A single decade of the rosary.
A whispered prayer in the grocery store line.
A pause before walking through your front door.

Lent doesn't have to fee heavy to be holy. It can feel steady. Intentional. Even childlike.

At Knots of Grace, our hand-knotted single-decade rosaries, pocket rosaries, and door rosaries are designed to help you notice Jesus in the ordinary moments. Each knot is a gentle reminder to pause, breathe, and seek Him with a fresh, childlike heart.

The Joy of Being Found

Hide & Seek with Jesus isn't about Him staying hidden.

It's about learning to notice Him.

This March, under St. Joseph's quiet patronage and walking with Mary's faithful heart, let your search be simple. Let it be hopeful. Let it be small enough to begin again each day.

Ask yourself:

  • Where might Jesus be waiting for me today? and
  • Can I look for Him with the trust of a child?

Because He is not far. And the joy in finding Him is always worth the search.

A Lenten Prayer to St. Joseph

St. Joseph, faithful guardian of Jesus and Mary, guide my heart as I seek Christ this Lent. Help me notice Him in the quiet, in the ordinary, and teach me to trust, hope and follow with child-like joy. Amen.
