Your Monday Hug Devotion for May 26, 2025: Love that Forgives

Welcome to this week’s Monday Hug Devotion!

Forgiveness isn’t always easy. In fact, it can feel like one of the hardest things we’re asked to do. But genuine love - the kind that lasts - is built on the ability to forgive. Not once or twice, but as many times as needed. That’s how God loves us: with endless mercy, even when we don’t deserve it.

This week, we’re invited to look at our relationships - with family, friends, even ourselves - and ask: Am I holding onto something that needs to be released?

Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. It means trusting God enough to let Him carry what we no longer can. It’s a process. Sometimes slow, often messy. But with God’s help, it’s always possible.

In this week’s reflection, you’ll find:

  • A moment to pause and consider where forgiveness is needed in your life
  • A gentle reminder that forgiving isn’t weakness—it’s courageous, Spirit-led love
  • An invitation to lean on God when forgiveness feels too heavy

Love That Forgives

The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. - James 3:17

Genuine love is an exercise in forgiveness. If we wish to build lasting relationships, we must learn how to forgive. Why? Because our loved ones are imperfect (as are we). How often must we forgive our family and friends? More times than we can count. Why? Because it's the right thing to do, and it's what God wants us to do.

Perhaps granting forgiveness is hard for you. If so, you're not alone. Genuine, lasting forgiveness is often difficult to achieve. Difficult, but not impossible. Thankfully, with God's help, all things are possible, and that includes forgiveness. But make no mistake: forgiveness is work, which is OK with God. He knows the payoffs are worth the effort.

"Perhaps all peacemaking must begin in a similar spot— in prayer to God, praying for another, asking blessing for the one who has injured us, and opening our own hearts for godly examination." - Debra Evans
